Hey, Ya’ll it’s Clint. My wife has been bugging me non stop to help her find a pair of womens wide calf hunting boots.

I think her calves are perfect. She thinks they’re too big. Either way she needs a hunting boot that will accommodate her above average lower leg size.

Hunting together is one of our favorite things to do. It’s where we get some quality time together out in beautiful mother nature. But if I don’t find her some new boots that fit her calves right I’m going to go crazy listening to her gripe about her current pair.

See here’s the thing though. I’m not a woman. And I don’t know all that much about women’s specific wide calf hunting boots. But I’ll tell you what I am good at. I’m one heck of a hunter. And for this post I went on an all out wild game hunt to find the top 5 women’s hunting boots for you ladies with big calves. Don’t worry you can thank me later.

I’m embarrassed to say how many hours I poured into this research for something seemingly so obscure. Spoiler alert it was a lot. But as they say… happy wife, happy life.

Let’s do this!

Top 5 Wide Calf Hunting Boots For Women

1. Muck Boot Women’s Chore Wide Calf Rain Boot

The first three recommendations I found come from one of the best hunting boot manufacturers out there for either men or women, Muck Boot. This is the only brand I found while going down this unique rabbit hole that makes a specific wide calf version of some of their best all around boots. I decided to review this boot first because this was indeed the boot that my wife decided to buy! And she LOVES them.

What’s to like about them?

First off, you just really can’t go wrong with Muck Boots. This specific model is one of their iconic boots for both men and women and all they did was make a pair specifically for wide calves. How ‘bout that?!

These boots feature toughness with a rubber overlay and most importantly they offer a waterproof adjustable gusset for just the right fit around the calf. They are 100% waterproof and there are customers who say they fit 19” calves with room to spare! Fear no more, ladies. These boot’s have your back (side of your lower leg).

What’s NOT to like about them?

Honestly, not much. If you plan to wear these boots in the summer you may find that your feet will be a little warm in them. But rest assured your calves will fit in them oh so nicely. At the time of writing this post I only found one negative review which claimed that their feet got wet wearing these. I’m chalking it up to user error because every other review online literally raves about these boots (including my wife).

Pros:

  • 100% waterproof
  • Fit’s 19” calf with room to spare
  • Muck Boot brand speaks for itself
  • An iconic boot redesigned for large calves
Cons:

  • Could be too warm for summer hunting
  • Someone said their feet got wet. We don’t really believe that.

2. Muck Boot Women’s Wetland Wide Calf Snow Boot

This second boot is again from the trusted Muck Boot brand. As I’ve already mentioned the brand really speaks for itself in its long standing history of making great hunting boots. This model is no different. These boots are specifically made for colder weather but are also 100% waterproof. These boots are not only perfect for hunting but also for farm work and will keep your tootsies warm and dry.

What’s to like about them?

These boots are comfortable yet rugged and even with larger calves you should have no problem fitting several layers of pants or a pair of coveralls into the adjustable leg. Also, if you have high arches this might just be the boot for you due to the added midsole for extra comfort. Combine all this with a breathable mesh lining, comfort top line, and a 5mm neoprene bootie and you’ve got yourself a wide calf womens hunting boot that checks all the boxes.

What’s NOT to like about them?

The only downside to these boots that I could come up with might be that they are made for colder weather so if you’re looking for something not as warm this again might not be the right boot for you. But I found plenty of reviews online that stated they wore these in spring without issue. Also, if brown isn’t your color then you’re out of luck with these boots as they only come in brown.

Pros:

  • 100% waterproof
  • Added midsole for extra comfort
  • Muck Boot brand speaks for itself
  • Breathable and comfortable
Cons:

  • Could be too warm for warmer weather
  • Only comes in brown color

3. Muck Boot Women’s Woody Max Wide Calf Snow Boot

The third boot in the lineup once again comes from Muck Boot to no ones surprise. They are after all the only company I could find that has specific wide calf models for both men and women. This boot specifically delivers a slimming look that is very easy to maintain due to its high gloss finish. This finish allows you to quickly and easily rinse off mud, salt, or snow.

What’s to like about them?

Simply put these boots are great for cold, rainy and mucky weather. They are tall and slimming while easy to maintain. This model boasts added insoles with gel inserts for additional comfort. There is also a generous pull-tab that makes these boots a breeze to get on and off. And like the other 2 Muck Boot wide calf models this boot also comes standard with the adjustable leg gusset to ensure easy fit for larger calves.

What’s NOT to like about them?

The only negative I could seem to uncover was the lack of reviews for this specific boot. I literally couldn’t find one at the time of this post. While that’s unfortunate to not have customer feedback about this exact model the Muck Boot brand still gives you peace of mind. Also, if camouflage isn’t your look then these boots might not be for you.

Pros:

  • Tall slimming look
  • 4mm neoprene plus fleece for warmth
  • Dual density EVA insole with gel insert for comfort
  • Reduced heel eases walking on uneven surfaces
Cons:

  • Very few verified reviews online
  • Camouflage isn't for everyone

4. Lacrosse Women's Alphaburly Pro 15" Waterproof Hunting Boot

Finally, a brand aside from Muck Boot! These Lacrosse Alphaburly boots are awesome. It didn’t take long to realize that the ladies really love this boot. With hundreds of verified online reviews and the ever necessary adjustable top leg gusset for wide calf comfort there’s no confusion about why this boot is so popular. Also, this boot is stylish. Even my wife agrees I have an eye for stylish women’s boots. Seriously though these look great.

What’s to like about them?

Stylish. Waterproof. Hundreds of reviews. Perfect for wide calf comfort. What’s not to love?! My wife said if she didn’t get a pair of the Muck Boots that she would have picked this Lacrosse boot. The embossed liner increases air circulation inside the boot to ensure moisture wicking and quick drying. There’s no question this is a premium hunting boot.

What’s NOT to like about them?

Based on a few reviews it seems like mud tends to stick to the soles of these boots a little more than normal and requires a hose to jar loose the debris. Not a huge issue but could be troubling for some. These boots also have a narrow ankle which could cause discomfort for certain shaped feet and ankles. But we are really nit picking here.

Pros:

  • Hand laid premium rubber
  • Active fit adjustable gusset for large calves
  • Unequaled scent protection
  • Good air circulation and moisture wicking for quick drying
Cons:

  • Soles tend to hold mud
  • Narrow ankle could cause discomfort for some

5. Lacrosse Women's Alphaburly Pro 15" 1000G Knee High Boot Optimal Elevated ii

And finally we finish out our top 5 best women’s wide calf hunting boots with another model from Lacrosse. These are similar to the previous pair but are better for cold weather. They come with a nice look to them combining gray trim with gray camo. Similar to the previous pair of Lacrosse boots these too have hand laid premium rubber but instead over a 3.5mm neoprene core which make them flexible, waterproof, and scent free.

What’s to like about them?

By now I think you get the point. These are great hunting boots that have the added adjustable upper leg gusset to accommodate a wider calf with ease. These come in a little beefier than the previous model for added cold weather performance. Another solid hunting boot for women that cater to the wider calf audience.

What’s NOT to like about them?

The only thing that one might not like about these is the price. At the time of writing this post they are the most expensive of the bunch. But that’s always subject to change over time so it could be a short term dislike. Only time will tell!

Pros:

  • Hand laid premium rubber
  • Active fit adjustable gusset for large calves
  • Unequaled scent protection
  • Thick cushion EVA midsole for added comfort
Cons:

  • Highest price tag at time of this post
