Over the past month we’ve reworked how WildlifeChase is organized to make it easier to use — and more useful once you get there.

County guides for Waterfowl Production Areas

Instead of a separate page for each of the 3,251 WPAs, every county with WPAs now has one complete guide: a satellite map of all its tracts, a sortable table with acreage, GPS coordinates, nearest town and one-tap directions, plus local shooting-hour tables, the forecast and the district’s rules. Links to old WPA pages now redirect to the right row on the county guide.

Hunt units on the refuge page

Hunt units are now part of each refuge guide. Click Show on map in the unit table to zoom the map to that unit, or use Directions to navigate to it. Each refuge page also has a new “by the numbers” section that ranks the refuge by huntable acreage in its state and nationally, highlights its largest and closed units, and lists unit-specific permit notes from the USFWS data.

16 new guides

We published new in-depth guides on the Federal Duck Stamp, HIP certification, nontoxic shot, public-land duck hunting, deer, turkey, pheasants on WPAs, doves, feral hogs, safety, etiquette, hunting dogs, reading a hunt brochure, your first hunt, fishing and a glossary — plus three data analyses: refuges near major cities, the largest huntable refuges and waterfowl refuges by state.
