Desoto National Wildlife Refuge Hunting & Fishing Guide 2026–27

Hunting at Desoto NWR

Hunters can pursue big game, wild turkey, and upland birds here, subject to state seasons and refuge-specific rules. Fishing is available — freshwater fishing. A refuge permit is required for at least some activities, in addition to your state license.

One of the most visible species at DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge is wild turkey. Large numbers of these birds roam nearly every corner of the refuge. The refuge’s spring hunts are specially designed for those with disabilities and young hunters.

Fishing at Desoto NWR

Fishing season is April 15-October 14. Trotlines, float lines and seining for bait are prohibited. No more than two rigs and two hooks per line may be used.

State fishing licenses and regulations apply. Some waters close seasonally to protect wildlife.
