Hunting at Trinity River NWR

Hunters can pursue big game, waterfowl, small game, and feral & exotic here, subject to state seasons and refuge-specific rules. Fishing is available — freshwater fishing and shellfishing & crabbing. A refuge permit is required for at least some activities, in addition to your state license. Special youth hunting opportunities are offered.

Champion Lake is the refuge's largest and most popular year-round fishing spot. The most common species are largemouth bass, catfish, crappie and blue crab.
