Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge Hunting & Fishing Guide 2026–27

Located in Sussex County, New Jersey, Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge is managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, with about 6,004 acres of land owned in fee by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Hunting at Wallkill River NWR

Hunting opportunities include big game, waterfowl, wild turkey, upland birds, migratory birds, and small game, subject to state seasons and refuge-specific rules. Fishing is available — freshwater fishing. A refuge permit is required for at least some activities, in addition to your state license. Special youth hunting opportunities are offered.

Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge provides ample opportunity for hunting. Public hunting is permitted on approximately 5,000 acres in New Jersey and 160 acres in New York in accordance with those states’ seasons. Some special regulations apply.
