Hunting at Monte Vista NWR

Hunters can pursue big game, waterfowl, migratory birds, and small game here, subject to state seasons and refuge-specific rules. Special youth hunting opportunities are offered.

Historically, snowpack from the surrounding mountains filled the creeks, rivers and aquifers to overflowing creating thousands of acres of wetlands across the immense San Luis Valley in southern Colorado.
