Hunting at Montezuma NWR

Permitted hunting categories are big game, waterfowl, wild turkey, and small game, subject to state seasons and refuge-specific rules. Fishing is available — freshwater fishing. A refuge permit is required for at least some activities, in addition to your state license.

The area once known as the Montezuma Marshes drew tens of thousands of waterfowl making their annual fall migration.

Fishing at Montezuma NWR

Fishing season is year-round. Available species include largemouth bass, crappie, sunfish, yellow perch, catfish and northern pike. No boating is allowed on refuge pools. The use of non-toxic tackle is required.

State fishing licenses and regulations apply. Some waters close seasonally to protect wildlife.
